As Ottawa enters the next phase of its pandemic recovery, the Kanata North tech park is showing promising signs of accelerated growth, with nearly 200 companies actively recruiting new talent.
According to the Discover Technata job board – currently the country’s largest private job posting hub – there are close to 900 positions available in the technology park.
This continued growth in the city’s tech sector is helping keep top talent in Ottawa – as well as attract newcomers to the city to fill the talent gap.
In a recent study published by global real estate firm CBRE, tech employment in Ottawa grew by 22.5 per cent between 2015 and 2020.
CBRE says the city now has 74,000 workers in its tech labour pool, giving Ottawa the highest concentration of tech talent, relative to its overall workforce, of any city in the top-50 ranking.
A significant portion of those jobs are located in the city’s largest tech park, with some 28,000 employees based in Kanata North, according to the local business association.
The momentum in Ottawa’s tech sector landed the city a No. 10 spot on CBRE’s 2021 Scoring Tech Talent report – putting the capital in a strong position for post-pandemic growth and recovery, Louis Karam, managing director of CBRE Ottawa said in a statement.
“Never before has it been more important to leverage this tech talent advantage to help our local economy thrive post-COVID,” he said.
