Kanata North is an incredible area in Ottawa that is most known for its successful and growing high tech sector and for the amazing talent that works here. However, for the people who live here, there are many other reasons that make this area a fantastic place to live, work and raise a family.
Through our “Where We Live” series, that will happen right here on the blog, we’re going to showcase the many reasons why living in Kanata North can’t be beat.
First Up? The South March Highlands
Ask anyone who lives in Kanata North what their favourite part of this area is and you’re likely to hear, the South March Highlands.
The South March Highlands has the highest ecological value and biodiversity of any area in the City of Ottawa. These Canadian Shield uplands, which are more than a billion years old, are rich in wetlands and mature forest and are home to more than 654 species across its 457 hectares.
The South March Conversation area has also been the home to mountain bikers in Kanata for over 20 years and the trails that weave in and out of the forest have been well documented by groups like the Ottawa Mountain Bike Association.
Used all-year round, this part of Kanata North is often frequented by bikers, hikers, walkers, pet owners and families, and is a fantastic place to unwind after a long day spent in the office. You can catch a glimpse of what it’s like to explore the highlands on this Facebook page.
