Kanata’s SSi Micro, a company bringing Internet and cell phone services to some of Canada’s most remote Northern communities, has something new to bring to the table: an energy system that the company says could help cut costs and carbon emissions.
Jeff Philipp of SSi Energy, a division of SSi Micro, presented the “SSi Energy Solution” system to MLAs in December 2018. The technology gathers heat waste and repurposes it.
In an overview document by SSi Energy, the company explains that the total cost of energy and greenhouse gas emissions is much higher in the North. By using heat waste, alongside sources of renewable energy where possible, SSi Energy’s solution can help more efficiently manage precious resources.
