Despite staff working from home, several Kanata North companies are still spreading holiday cheer by challenging their teams to raise money for the Kanata North Food Cupboard.
A not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing healthy food options to Kanata North residents in need of food assistance, the food cupboard has seen increased demand for its services amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Several Kanata North companies have stepped up with donations, including:
- Prontoforms: donated over $2,000 in gift cards and cash donations
- Solace: donated $6,000 from staff fundraising events
- Best Theratronics: donated $1,000 to the Christmas Hamper drive from 50/50 raffles
- Initiate Marketing: donated $2,500
A call was also put out to the local community when news broke that Garry Brownrigg, a well-known tech entrepreneur and founder of SaaS content management platform QuickSilk, was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic prostate cancer. A GoFundMe campaign was started to help Brownrigg’s family offset the cost of treatment with a goal of raising $35,000. Friends and colleagues are also encouraged to send well wishes to Brownrigg through Invest Ottawa’s Kudoboard.
