Ottawa, ON — October 13, 2026 — The Kanata North Business Association (KNBA) is pleased to welcome Darrell Wellington, General Manager of Calian’s GNSS business, to its Board of Directors.
Darrell Wellington brings more than 25 years of experience in technology, engineering and leadership, alongside a career deeply connected to Kanata North. Having lived and worked in the community throughout his career, he has held roles with leading Canadian technology companies including Calian, MOSAID Technologies and BlackBerry.
Today, Darrell leads Calian’s global GNSS business, overseeing a team that develops positioning, navigation and timing solutions for defence, aerospace, space and critical infrastructure markets. His experience spans both the technical expertise that has long defined Kanata North and the leadership required to bring Canadian-developed technologies to global markets.
“Darrell’s career reflects so much of what makes Kanata North unique: deep technical expertise, globally relevant technology and decades of connection to this community,” said Kelly Daize, Executive Director of the Kanata North Business Association. “He understands this ecosystem not only as a technology leader, but as someone who has built his career within it. That perspective will be incredibly valuable as we continue working to strengthen Canada’s Largest Technology Park and create the conditions for companies and talent to grow here.”
For Darrell, joining the KNBA Board is an opportunity to contribute to the technology community that has shaped his career.
“Kanata North has been at the heart of my entire career, and I’m excited for the opportunity to give back to a community that has given me so much. I look forward to working alongside the Board and KNBA team to support innovation, create opportunities for talent, and help grow the impact of our technology ecosystem.”
Darrell’s appointment adds further industry and technology leadership to the KNBA Board at a time when positioning, navigation and timing technologies are increasingly relevant across sectors represented within Kanata North, including defence, aerospace and space.
“Kanata North’s strength has always come from the depth of expertise that exists within this community,” said Andy Thompson, Chair of the KNBA Board of Directors. “Darrell brings decades of experience working at the intersection of engineering, technology and business, along with a strong understanding of what it takes to build and lead technology teams here in Kanata North. We’re pleased to welcome him to the Board.”
As a member of the Board, Darrell will help guide KNBA’s work to support the continued growth and competitiveness of Canada’s Largest Technology Park, strengthen connections across its technology ecosystem, and advance opportunities for companies and talent.
