Or did you really need an excuse to hang out with your tech-park pals and drink craft beer?
Ahhh, the Kitchen Party. If you’ve been to one, you know how much fun these little shindigs are. If not, you’re about to find out.
Soooo, what’s the significance of the kitchen?
Not only is the kitchen the heart of your home/office…it’s where the fridge is. Hard to argue with that logic. With hearty food, great beer, and lively music, kitchen parties offer a relaxing space to connect with your tech-park pals. Long story short: this event is a more laid-back approach to your typical networking event and gives you the chance to connect with other employees in the park! Fun fact: because kitchens are often smaller than other rooms, these parties traditionally get real cozy.
You mentioned food…
Typically, guests are SO busy socializing that they can’t be bothered to take a seat. Two words: finger foods. Think mini-quiche, spring rolls, sliders, and charcuterie boards. For an option with a little more substance, opt for a slow-cooked stew or chilli. This is not a sit-down affair, so grab some paper plates, bring your appetite, and text your friends to help you polish off that tray of Nanaimo bars!
And adult beverages?
Let’s be honest, any party isn’t complete without beer. And a kitchen party isn’t complete without great beer. East-Coasters are hospitable by nature, so fill your fridge with some local favourites, and make sure your guests have a drink in hand. Craft beer is an obvious choice, but a few bottles of wine are great to have on-hand for non-beer-drinkers looking to warm up with a bevvy.
Tunes?
Lively music is an essential part of any successful kitchen party. Celtic music is traditionally played at these parties, but ultimately, it’s about having fun with your tech-park pals. Whether you choose to go all-out with a live band (complete with fiddle players) or opt to blast some tunes from your iPhone, there’s really no right or wrong way to do it. If you’re looking for some inspiration, we’ve curated a Spotify playlist to help you set the mood and get in the groove for your next kitchen party.
Our first event will be hosted by Calabogie Brewing on Feb. 27, 2019
