For the first time ever, Startup Open House will be coming to Ottawa on Nov. 28th 2016!

The event shines light on some of the world’s most vibrant startup communities and is a perfect opportunity to showcase our own local startup community.

For an evening, startups open their doors and welcome top talent, passionate investors and curious neighbors into their offices. Walk through our city and visit the most innovative startups, connect with top entrepreneurs, and scout job opportunities.

The organizers this year in Ottawa include Invest Ottawa, L-Spark, Shopify and ourselves Kanata North Business Association (KNBIA). We’re excited to be part of this event as it highlights our fantastic city and the awesome startups, and innovations happening right in our own backyard!

ABOUT

The founding: Startup Open House was envisioned in 2013 by a group of Montreal entrepreneurs, LP Maurice (BusBud), Gabriel Sundaram (Real Ventures) and Catherine Ouellet-Dupuis (Stikeman Elliott). They were facing a challenge: attracting bright talent to grow their ventures. Built to fulfill this mission, Startup Open House started as a unique kind of career fair: participants visit startup offices, meet potential colleagues, experience first hand the work environment, interact with the product they would be building.

The value prop: Startup Open House shines light on the startup community by bringing together startups with entrepreneurship enthusiasts eager to discover and contribute to the startup ecosystem. Professionals and young talent network for career opportunities, corporations interact with startups, investors reconnect with the companies they support and curious people get a peek at the vibrant startup culture. For one evening, participants can enter their favourite startups’ offices and network with the team building their city’s most innovative products and services. For startups, it is a chance to meet top talent right within their workplace and gain exposure among the general public. We help spark connections to accelerate startup success!

Stats:

  • In Canada, in 2015, the event gathered 8000 participants and 500 startups in Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Waterloo Region and Quebec City.
  • In April 2016 we launched our first international event in London (UK).

2016 edition: This year, the Canadian events was held at the following cities around Canada, at Toronto in September, Montreal and Vancouver, on October 4th in Waterloo, and will  soon debut here in our city, Ottawa on November 29th.
