|Showcasing the Best of Ottawa
No doubt you have heard that 2017 marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of this great nation. And as the nation’s Capital, there will be no better place to celebrate this “Sesquicentennial” than right here in Ottawa. Accordingly, a dedicated team of hardworking professionals has been busy for many months now, imagining and planning and negotiating and developing a series of truly remarkable activities and events that will kick off when the clock strikes midnight this coming New Year’s Eve.
Guy Laflamme is the Executive Director of the Ottawa 2017 Bureau, the multidisciplinary organization created by the City of Ottawa to produce these local Canada’s 150th celebrations. Guy will be our guest speaker at the next TechTuesday, and he will provide us with an exciting sneak-peek of what we can expect from his team throughout the course of 2017.
The year-long celebrations have been designed with the potential to attract more than 11 million participants overall, and to generate more than $300M of consumer spending in the local community. The programs will span a range of performing arts, sporting, entertainment, social and large-scale events, as well as legacy projects that will leave a lasting impact on the Ottawa region. There will be a bias toward technology in the program elements, and this will help further position Ottawa as a technology city.
Guy is certainly no rookie at such things. Over his 25 years of senior-level experience in the festivals and events industry, he has specialized in the creation, production and marketing of cultural, recreational, tourism and other public celebrations at organizations that include the National Capital Commission, the Department of Canadian Heritage, the JUNO and the Genie Awards Committees and others. He has also undertaken international engagements such as a humanitarian program in West Africa.
When not busy planning large-scale multimedia events that attract tens of thousands of guests and are broadcast to millions of others, Guy is also a Professor of Marketing with the University of Ottawa undergraduate and Executive MBA programs, and he teaches at the University of Bucharest in Romania. Guy sits on the Board of Ottawa Tourism and the Ottawa Tourism Development Council, and has won numerous awards for all his efforts. He is a passionate and engaging speaker, and we know you will enjoy his presentation. We hope you can join us …
